Concerning Weddings

All of the weddings conducted in our building are marriages for our church family, those who are regularly a part of our fellowship or a member of the brotherhood of Christian Churches/Churches of Christ. As in most churches, we are committed to Christian marriages, so we choose not to work simply as a representative of the state. If time is available we are pleased to prepare for and perform ceremonies for others who share our commitments.

One of the best things that you could do to see how happy you would be with a wedding here would be to attend our services. Then you could observe the building, our congregation, and the style of our ministry.

The couple wishing to be married shall not be living together before their marriage. That may seem to be a strange condition to some who are planning a wedding ceremony. And we cannot impose a Biblical perspective on those who do not share our commitments. To be true to ourselves, however, we must preside over weddings where the marriage is being launched in a manner that we believe honors Christ. We are also aware that those who begin to live as though they were married before they commit to each other in marriage put their marital success in great jeopardy.

Marriage Mentoring

Whether you’re contemplating marriage or already engaged, Worthington Christian Church has a seven-session Marriage Mentoring program to prepare you for this lifetime commitment. The sessions are based on the book Preparing for Marriage, a resource from Family Life. You will be matched up with a mentor couple that has a well-seasoned marriage.

At the completion of these sessions, you should:

  • Discover the joy of knowing each other at deeper levels
  • Anticipate issues ahead of time
  • Know, apply and experience God’s Word as it relates to marriage
  • Become confident, certain and secure in your decision to marry (or not to marry)
  • Practice and apply the foundational skills needed to build a marriage
  • Learn essential communication & conflict resolution skills
  • Discuss roles and responsibilities in marriage
  • Learn about God’s design for true sexual intimacy

In order to be married at Worthington Christian Church, you must complete the Marriage Mentoring program.

Building Availability

If you’re in agreement with our perspective on Christian marriage, you may contact the office administrator to see if your requested date is available. Due to the decorating that couples wish to do, we are able to do only one wedding each Saturday in our worship center. Preference is given to those who are active in the Worthington Christian Church family.

The wedding is considered booked after payment of the fee is made and one of the ministers has agreed to perform the wedding. Marriages performed by clergy outside of our staff will be the exception rather than the rule.

Each couple wishing to be married at Worthington Christian Church will spend the time preparing for the wedding with one of the church's ministers, and they will be assigned a mentor couple with whom they will share their studies in the preparation of their marriage.
